About the service

The aim of the service is to work closely with charities and voluntary and community organisations across North Lanarkshire on an ongoing basis:

  • to support boards/committees and staff to improve financial governance within their organisation
  • to raise awareness of charity and company accounting and regulatory requirements  through direct support, information workshops, regular financial information bulletins, training, and newsletter items
  • to carry out financial health checks and systems audits to identify problem areas and develop a realistic action plan to deal with the issues identified
  • to make sure that the financial and accounting systems are fit for purpose, robust and user-friendly
  • to carry out independent examinations for smaller voluntary organisations and charities, subject to capacity
  • to signpost larger organisations to appropriate financial professionals
  • to provide support to ensure that voluntary organisations funded by North Lanarkshire Council are complying with the financial conditions laid out in the funding agreement with the Council
  • to provide tailored training and one-to-one support on:
    • financial governance for committees, staff & volunteers
    • basic book-keeping and setting up accounting systems, both manual and computerised
