Helen Gannon, Depute Service Co-ordinator,
North Lanarkshire Handyperson Service
I am the Depute Service Co-ordinator for the North Lanarkshire Handyperson Service.
In April 2004 I joined the North Lanarkshire Handyperson Service as the Admin assistant. Later on that year I applied for the post of Depute Service Co-ordinator and was successful. I speak to service users to access their requirements and allocate the tasks to the volunteers. It is my job to deal with the paperwork involved and also payment of out of pocket expenses to volunteers. I collate statistical information monthly and forward it to North Lanarkshire Council on a quarterly and annual basis.
Promoting the Handyperson Service is very important and I enjoy assisting the Service Co-ordinator, Yvonne Aitken, in this task.
When new volunteers apply to join the service, I assist with completion of the necessary forms and issue letters to referees. Each volunteer is required to have an enhanced disclosure check completed.
I assist with co-ordinating and participating in training for volunteers and also social events.
